What Our Clients Say

5 time returning client Pat Hall

"Next year, 2016, will be my fifth visit to the Iditarod Sled Dog Race travelling with Alaska Iditarod Tours. My experiences with Richard’s tours have always been exactly what I wanted. This includes booking the entire race (start to finish), accommodation, meals, side trips, extra activities and great company. Many friends are made as there are several return visits which gives us an opportunity to meet new friends and renew friendships. Richard’s tours are very relaxed, flexible and because he has been travelling to the Iditarod for many years, he has a great understanding of the needs of his clients and has connections with the Iditarod family. I would absolutely recommend Alaska Iditarod Tours as a complete Iditarod experience one never forgets." Pat

21 Day Tour Client Liz Masalin

Hi Richard, I just want to thank you so much for a wonderful vacation!! It far exceeded any expectation that I had. I smiled for 21 days straight!! It was my first time in Alaska, and I feel that there is no way I could ever top this trip!! I loved every bit of it. From the cruise in Seward, to the resort, in which we took the helicopter ride and landed on a glacier!!! How awesome was that!! I loved the banquet, where we got to meet all of the mushers. Just when I thought "it can't get any better" it did!! I loved McGrath and flying to the check points. It was amazing And of course, being at the finish line in Nome, was the perfect ending to our Iditarod experience! We made so many wonderful new friends on the tour, that was icing on the cake!! It is truly a vacation I will never forget!! Thank you sooo very much!! Liz Masalin

5 Time Returning Client Trish Cox

My first Iditarod experience was in 2012 and I chose Alaska Iditarod Tours as they offered the most comprehensive tour following the whole race from the start in Anchorage, visiting checkpoints along the trail and finishing in Nome. I was more than happy with my choice of tour company and the whole experience was one I will never forget. Rich Montagna has been involved with the Iditarod and mushing for many years and is very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. I've found Richard is always prepared to go that extra mile to make sure his clients have the best experience. 2016 will be my 5th Iditarod and yes I will be joining Rich's Alaska Iditarod Tour for the sixth time and meeting up with a dozen or so other returning clients from various parts of the world, as well as catching up with friends that I have made in the villages and towns over the last four years."

"Alaska is our favorite place to visit. When we decided we wanted to experience an "Iditarod" we went online and discovered "Alaska Iditarod Tours". It was an absolutely wonderful exciting adventure. Rich does the best job of handling every detail both large and small. We had the best possible time and can't wait to go all the way to Nome in 2016. We feel so positive about this trip that we have invited another couple to join us for the "trip of a lifetime".

Photographer Mark Lembersky

"This trip provided remarkable access to the action of the Iditarod, from being right in the heart of everything at the Anchorage start, to being behind the scenes at the official restart, and to the informality and sense of being part of the Iditarod family at McGrath. Rich made it possible to have both outstanding photo opportunities and a great time." Mark Lembersky

Amazing!

My sister and I went to see the Iditarod for her 50th birthday. We had such a great experience with this company. He had fun experiences lined up for us throughout our visit. We have shared our fantastic experiences with many people and plan to join Rich again someday.Judy W

Fantastic Trip!

We have traveled all over the world, but this was one of our best trips ever! We chose the 6-day trip to see the start of the Iditarod. The first day we went to Dallas Seavey's sled dog kennel where we got to drive our own team. We learned a lot about the dogs and it was great fun. We had cold weather gear, but they have some jackets you can borrow for an additional layer. The next day we went to Alyeska where we went up on the mountain for lunch and walked on the trails near Girdwood. Thursday night we went to the Mushers' Meet & Greet and Banquet. It was great to meet and talk with the mushers. We were so fortunate this was before Covid-19 really got fired up. Friday we went to the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, a really great museum. Saturday we went to the ceremonial start of the race in downtown Anchorage. Our hotel was just a block from the race so we could come and go whenever we wanted. Since the mushers start 2 minutes apart, it takes about 2 hours for everyone to start, and then there's the Running of the Reindeer where people dress up in crazy costumes and run with the reindeer. Sunday was the start of the race in Willow. It snowed all day, something we Floridians don't get to see often! We went home the day after the start, but many in our group stayed to go out to the checkpoints and to Nome. We went to great restaurants as part of the tour. We had a good mix of free time and planned activities. It was great to relax and not have to worry about driving in the snow, something Floridians don't know how to do. Rich is an excellent guide, very attentive to everyone's needs. Since our return home AIT has sent us photos from the trip that we did not have. I highly recommend this trip if you want to experience the Iditarod and also see some of the sights around Anchorage. Thank you AIT! Linda B
